The good hosts file was created by Spybot S&D V 1.6.įirst attempt to install the package by logging in to the remote site. Fortunately I had an older version of hosts files before the import and used it. One of those 15,000 entries is interfering with the Cisco installation. I had imported a whole bunch of URLs to block ads from tracking me on the web. The issue I had was caused by some entries in the hosts file. This is a recap Thanks Steve for confirming. If I ever get it working again, I will make a system restore point immediately. I do think it is somehow tied up with the hosts file and with the services. However, I decided to try your method and I still get the same error message. The first time I had success, I did not have to turn off anti-virus. I had to fall back to the last system restore point which was the installation of VPN. Somehow this version re-established itself as the hosts file.Īlso what happened is that I could not launch IE. ![]() ![]() The 900K version was a result of an import of sites so as to stop ads from showing when I browsed. I had two versions: one was 450K the other was 900K. I got it up and running then reinstalled Spybot Search and Destroy. I've seemed to have taken a step backwards.
